During the 4th Student International Film Festival – STIFF, which begins this Thursday, October 19th, and will be held in Art-Kino in Rijeka until Sunday, October 22nd, we will dedicate plenty of time to discussions as well.

Congruously with the theme of this year’s festival, (Social Issues) which can also be read as Social IS US, through discussions we will try to emphasize that the social problems of any vulnerable group concern all of us and that they are worth discussing and we should reflect on them together. Films in the Programme of the 4th STIFF – 38 of them (feature films, animated, documentary, experimental, hybrid) from 21 countries from all over the world, open up a series of such topics.

At the festival the audience will have the opportunity to talk to film directors and experts on issues of sexuality and family relationships, immigration crisis and problems of the Gypsy community in the European context. The discussions will be moderated by Greta Grakalić-Rački, associate professor of Cultural Studies at the University of Rijeka and Petra Bezjak, a graduate student of Cultural Studies

On Thursday, October 19th at 9 p.m., after the film block named Things we don’t talk about, a discussion with the audience will be held on taboo-themes of contemporary society concerning sexuality. Maša Cek, a psychologist with a rich experience in working with young people and for young people, which she got, among other things, through collaboration with Parter and Delta associations, will also participate in the discussion. She has completed education on juvenile delinquency and she educates young people on sexuality and related subjects.

On Friday at 8:30 p.m. after the film block Odyssey, we will discuss the issues of migrant crisis and the possible ways of dealing with the so-called immigration wave, both on an individual and European level. The director of the feature film Mayday Relay, Florian Tscharf, and the head of the Department of Education and Schooling of the City of Rijeka, Sanda Sušanj, will both participate in the discussion. Film Mayday Relay, which the audience will be able to watch before the discussion, is set in the Mediterranean Sea, where a father and a daughter sail carelessly, until they receive a call for help from a ship carrying over a hundred people. The director will talk about his motivation to make a film concerning migrant themes, while Sanda Sušanj will share her rich experience in working with migrants and people under subsidiary protection, as well as her work in the non-governmental organization ‘Are you Syrious’ providing support to the refugees of the Balkan route .

On Sunday, October 22nd, at 6:45 p.m., there will be a discussion on the problems of the Gypsy community within European culture, after two documentaries about Gypsies. Zoran Krema, director, filmmaker, editor of documentaries, and the author of a documentary film Chaplin Theater – Tragicomedy in Four Acts, about the first Gypsy amateur theatre in Europe, will participate in this discussion.

All discussions are open to the public, will be held in the Art-Kino atrium and are free just like the entrance to all the projections.

Seksualnost, migranti i manjine u fokusu razgovornog programa 4. STIFF-a

U sklopu 4.

Filmovi u programu 4. STIFF-a, njih 38 (igrani, animirani, dokumentarni, eksperimentalni, hibridni) pristigli iz 21 zemlje svijeta, otvaraju niz upravo takvih tema.

Na festivalu će publika imati priliku razgovarati s filmskim redateljima i stručnjacima/stručnjakinjama na teme seksualnosti i obiteljskih odnosa, migrantske krize i problema romske zajednice u europskom kontekstu. Razgovore će moderirati Greta Grakalić-Rački, stručna suradnica Kulturalnih studija Sveučilišta u Rijeci i Petra Bezjak, studentica diplomskog programa Kulturalnih studija

U tome će pomoći redatelj igranog filma Poziv u pomoć Florian Tscharf i pročelnica Odjela za odgoj i školstvo Grada Rijeke Sanda Sušanj.

U razgovoru će sudjelovati Zoran Krema, redatelj, snimatelj i montažer dokumentarnih filmova, ujedno i autor dokumentarca Teatar Chaplin – tragikomedija u četiri čina, o prvom romskom amaterskom teatru u Europi.
