The state of Iowa is the largest producer of soy and corn in the U.S. In the town of Eldon, Iowa, the multi-national corporations, Cargill and John Deere, are the most important job sources – mostly in the low income bracket. In the town there are hardly any public services. The houses are often placed between vast fields. Five young people talk about their daily lives in this rural area. An anthropological documentary about unlocked doors, fun and conflict in geographical isolation.

ZERO-G / Bez Gravitacije

Jannis Lenz, documentary, 9’, Austria, 2015.

Originating in the Parisian suburbs, Parkour is a “kinetic” art form that involves jumping walls and other obstacles in urban environments. It also evokes the feeling of weightlessness inherent to big cities but which is gradually disappearing. Schwerelos follows a group of Parkour “tracers” from Vienna and slam artist Fatima Moumouni, who pens a poem on the city and young people’s attitude to life.

What I Want / To što želim

Damian Kocur, fiction, 30’, Poland, 2015.

Modern-day Silesia. Ariel is a 25-year-old male whose entire life boils down to his beloved football team and his dog. For Karolina – a twenty-year-old girl raising a one-year-old child by herself – the career of a cheerleader in one of Silesian football clubs is an illusory chance for a better life. When these two people meet each other it leads to a clash of seemingly different desires, both rooted in solitude.

Within Thy Walls / Unutar zidina

Omer Sharon Daniella Schnitzer, animation 7’, Israel, 2015.

Badihi, an old religious man, is vigorously posting notices that announce the hour that the Shabbat (the Jewish Saturday ritual) begins. Throughout his difficult journey all over the city, we discover the various aspects of Jerusalem – the city with a great gap between the symbolic and holy values and the people who live their daily lives in it. The movie is based on the footage that we recorded while wandering along from the entrance of Jerusalem up to the “Old City”.

The voice of a blind man leads us through the sound-scape of Rijeka city. We are entering a documentary and intimate description of the narrato’s experience of his city. What does it mean to see the city without looking? How does the image of the city form by relying on other senses and how does it complement on the basis of memories and conversations with other people? Thoughts and sounds of the city are interwoven with the video, which the authors create guided by descriptions of mental images that are projected with sound, tactile and olfactory stimuli.
