America / Amerika

Aleksandra Terpińska, fiction, 30’, Poland ,2015.

1-americaDvije tinejdžerice, Anka i Dzastina, maštaju o boljem životu.

Two teenagers – Anka and Dzastina – play around with dreams about a better life. The two inseparable friends, bored with their everyday existence, decide to hitch-hike. A meant-to-be innocent adventure changes into an emotional game in which truth intertwines with fiction and the sequence of consecutive events irreversibly changes mutual relations of the characters and their perspective of existing world.

Rhythmus 59

Aleksey Lapin, Markus Zizenbacher, fiction, 27’, Austria, 2016

3-rhythmus-59Usred puste ničije zemlje na češkoj granici, bezdušne čekaonice oživljavaju sanjive čežnje prisutnih. Laurent prodaje kuće, Milena radi u salonu ljepote, dok je Slavor agresivan i neodlučan. Sanjaju o putovanjima, ljubavi i velikoj zaradi, a ipak se gube u prolaznim vezama i površnim prijateljstvima. Naizmjence prikazujići bliskost i udaljenost, kliše i vjerodostojnost, ovaj film, kao i njegovi protagonisti vješto izbjegavaju uobičajene atribucije.

In the middle of the bleak no-man’s-land at the Czech border, soulless transit lounges are livened up by the yearning transit dreams of those present. Laurent sells houses, Milena works in a beauty salon, Slavor is aggressive and undecided. They dream of travelling, of love, of big bucks – and yet lose themselves in fleeting relationships and superficial friendships. Alternating between closeness and distance, cliché and authenticity, both the film and its protagonists ultimately dodge fixed attributions.
