STIFF 2017 AWARDS / NAGRAĐENI FILMOVI STIFF-A 2017

BEST FICTION FILM / NAJBOLJI IGRANI FILM (Jury/ Žiri:Asja Krsmanović, Nikola Zdravković, Filip Kušter)

Lunch Time / Ručak, Alireza Ghasemi, Iran, 2017, Art University of Tehran

The award for the best film goes to a motion picture that tackles the problem of the degradation of a woman resulting in her complete dehumanization. The disharmony in social relations leads to a breakdown of a family that is compelled to highly immoral actions in order to survive.

BEST FICTION FILM  – SPECIAL MENTION / NAJBOLJI IGRANI FILM – POSEBNO PRIZNANJE ŽIRIJA

The Elusive / Varljivo, Ely Chevillot, Belgium / Belgija, 2016, Institut des Arts de Diffusion, Louvain-la Neuve

The special jury prize goes to a film embroidered with the director’s precise and meticulous work with actors and breathtaking commitment to details. The director takes us into a world of a family where a seemingly unimportant event reveals all the layers of the mother-son relationship. Her work throughout the whole film reminds us that everything is elusive.

Posebno priznanje žirija dodjeljujemo filmu koji odlikuje precizan i minuciozan rad redateljice s glumcima i zadivljujuća posvećenost detalju. Redateljica nas uvodi u svijet porodice u kojoj jedan naoko bezazlen događaj otkriva svu slojevitost odnosa između majke i sina.

BEST ANIMATION FILM / NAJBOLJI ANIMIRANI FILM (Jury / Žiri: Petra Zlonoga, Anna Ottlik, Katarina Zrinka Šarić)

Pussy, Renata Gasiorowska, Poland / Poljska, 2016, Polish National Film School in Lodz

Film which talks about a delicate subject in a direct way using playful humor and simple yet poignant visual.

BEST ANIMATION FILM – SPECIAL MENTION / NAJBOLJI ANIMIRANI FILM – POSEBNO PRIZNANJE ŽIRIJA

We Are The Immigrants / Mi smo imigranti, Catalina Matamoros, USA / SAD, 2016, University of Southern California

Very well animated and directed film in which a personal story of one family brings forth the challenges and the danger that many immigrants are faced with.

Vrlo dobro animiran i režiran film u kojem osobna priča jedne obitelji približava izazove i opasnosti s kojima se susreću brojni imigranti.

BEST DOCUMENTARY FILM / NAJBOLJI DOKUMENTARNI FILM (Jury / Žiri: Hrvoje Krstičević, Huda Takriti, Marta Ban)

Valentina, Maximilian Feldmann, Germany / Njemačka, 2016, Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in cooperation with Fachhochschule Dortmund

‘Valentina’ is a warm story about a common theme we rarely think of. It gives a different, humane view of Roma population leading us to sympathise with them without pity. The excellent camera work puts the emphasis on details and shapes the whole story in which even though the heroine is a charismatic girl Valentina, the same attention is given to the other members of her family and their relationships.

‘Valentina’ je topla priča o uobičajenoj temi o kojoj rijetko mislimo. Daje drugačiji i humaniji pogled na Rome koje u ovom kontekstu razumijemo – s njima suosjećamo bez sažalijevanja. Odličan rad kamerom stavlja naglasak na detalje i oblikuje cjelovitu priču u kojoj glavna junakinja jest karizmatična djevojčica Valentina, no jednaka je pažnja posvećena ostalim članovima njene obitelji te njihovim odnosima.

BEST DOCUMENTARY FILM – SPECIAL MENTION / NAJBOLJI DOKUMENTARNI FILM – POSEBNO PRIZNANJE ŽIRIJA

The World We Live In / Svijet u kojem živimo, Hanna Fischer, Sofiia Melnyk, Nina Prange, Germany / Njemačka, 2016, Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg

“Incorporating animation elements in their documentary, directors gave fresh angle on difficult subject concerning Eastern European migrants in Western Europe.”

„Dodavanjem animiranih elemenata u svoj dokumentarni film, redateljice otvaraju svjež kut gledanja na tešku temu potrage za boljim životom migranata iz Istočne Europe na zapadu Starog kontinenta.“
